Make the Most of Your Checkpoints | Hot Weather Edition | CREWED
In hot conditions, these simple steps can make a big difference over the course of a race. Use each stop as an opportunity to cool down and refuel.
Use this checklist:
☑️ Refill bottles with cold water.
☑️ Top up your ice bandana with fresh ice.
☑️ Pour cold water over your head, neck, and arms.
☑️ Re-soak your hat or cap before heading back out.
☑️ Keep gels chilled in a cool box or fridge.
☑️ Grab an ice lolly if available to help cool your body.
☑️ Take an extra minute to cool down before leaving the checkpoint
It can be tempting to rush through checkpoints, but in hot weather, taking an extra minute to cool down properly is often time well spent. The aim is to leave each checkpoint feeling cooler, hydrated, and ready for the next section of the race.
BONUS TOP TIPS FOR THE START:
Before the race begins, aim to keep both your core body temperature and skin temperature as low as possible. Stay in the shade for as long as you can, use the air conditioning if you're travelling by car, choose cold drinks over hot drinks on race morning, and wear a cooling towel or ice bandana to help keep your body cool before you set off.
